Ms. Batchelor, I agree with MF here. Some of the relationships and the identity of the narrator are convoluted. I think it has a lot to do with the way the piece is put together on the site, niot so much the work itself. For example the chapter 002 has no text. And the first chapter is probably best left with its corresponding text, separated by white space, not just leaving it alone as it's own entity--grandma leaving baked goods to rest portends and foresbhadows some drama to come, but not enough to be a stand alone chapter.
I think it's just a formatting issue with your post to the site, but it's too much of a distraction for me to get rightly invested in your story. My suggestion is just dumping what's up and then republishing back onto the site. I see you tried to post something a couple days ago, but sadly nothing seems to have made it onto the reader's end.

Some of the relationships in this are unclear to me, but I like the idea of the story. Not sure when it is set. The comment about being made to feel like an adult is marvellous.
(It looks as though individual pages of this have posted as chapters. I'm not sure if some material is missing?)
