Alain Robbe-Grillet
Bio/Mission
Alain Robbe-Grillet (1922-2008) was a French writer and filmmaker. His first novel, "Les Gommes" ("The Erasers"), was published in 1953, and his early work received attention from critics such as Roland Barthes and Maurice Blanchot. In 1961, he worked with Alain Resnais to write the script for "L'Année dernière à Marienbad" ("Last Year at Marienbad"), and afterward proceeded to write and direct his own films. Robbe-Grillet's work has been described as realist, phenomenological, mathematical, psychoanalytical, and cubist. Robbe-Grillet's major novels also include "Le Voyeur" ("The Voyeur") and "La Jalousie".
