Chris Jay Becker
Bio/Mission
I'm an Indie/DIY crime novelist, a stand-up comic/screenwriter, and an ASCAP songwriter. Right now, I'm concentrating mostly on the novels because I can do that here, in Iowa, in the dead of winter, plus, I can use a little bit of all of the above in my novels. My goal is to move back home to Los Angeles next year.
I was born in Los Angeles, the only child of two ex-cons and ex-heroin addicts, and was partly raised by my ex-Vaudeville comedian grandpa, and partly by a conglomeration of parental-figures. During my last 3 years of high school, I was the ward of a very strict and almost cult-like church in San Francisco.
I made my professional debut as a comic at the world famous Hollywood Improv in 1986. I've also been a minister and a gospel singer. All of these things factor into my writing. Someday, I hope to write a few books of comedic personal-essays about my horror story childhood, but It's too overwhelming right now.
