Iris Schwartz
Bio/Mission
I write fiction, nonfiction, drama, and poetry, and was nominated for a Pushcart Prize in poetry in 2007. My book of poems with Madeline Artenberg, Awakened, was published by Rogue Scholars Press. Other work has been anthologized in An Eye for an Eye Makes the Whole World Blind: Poets on 9/11; Listening to the Birth of Crystals (Great Britain); How Dirty Girls Come Clean; Stirring Up a Storm: Tales of the Sensual, the Sexual, and the Erotic; and, forthcoming, in Spiny Babbler. My writing has also appeared in journals such as The Wormwood Press, New Mirage Journal, Ducts Magazine, Ludlow Press, Pikeville Review, Blue Collar Review, and Vernacular.
I am eager to continue work on my current novel, and to work with Red Lemonade! I am also an editor, a life-long admirer of equines, a devotee of noir fiction and film, and an aficionado and occasional singer of blues, R&B, rockabilly, and more. Writing has been my raison d'etre since early elementary school, when I wrote and illustrated my very first novel.
Inspirations
Dostoyevsky, Joyce Carol Oates, Ian McEwan, Eudora Welty always inspire, teach, and thrill. A full list would keep me busy for days. Any environment or circumstance can get me pumped, but wicked humor is an especial help.
