Bio/Mission

I moved to Chicago in 2002 to study theatre and pursue ambitions of becoming a method actor. After co-founding Three Leaves, an original works theatre company, and running it into the ground, I fell in love with the process of writing, evolving from writing plays and screenplays to reveling in the freedom and challenges of prose. As a member of the XIII Pocket Collective in Chicago, I contributed short stories to several issues of the annual publication "Seeding Meat" and also work-shopped my play "Bosto" with the collective as part of the DCA Studio Theatre's Incubator series. In 2009 I experimented with self publishing my illustrated storybook "Whiskey Pike: A Bedtime Story for the Drinking Mankind" and the novella "Turban Tan." Currently I'm a member of the comedy production group Wood Sugars where we perform in live sketch shows, make films, podcast, and write epic feature length cartoons. I recently released the novel "Votary Nerves." Feel free to follow my blog TheIglooOven.com.

Inspirations

Being around plants is a good thing. I like fresh air. I also like fantasizing about the woods during Chicago's cold, grey winters. And then the ultimate refresher of finally getting out of the city and into the woods, then missing the city. Every now and then I'll have an extremely lucid, vivid dream that takes place in outer space. Favorite writers include; George Saunders, Italo Calvino, John Irving, Kurt Vonegut, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Cormac McCarthy, Jack London, Donald Barthelme, John Cheever, Bertolt Brecht, Tracy Letts
