Bio/Mission

I'm a Boston-based writer with a master's degree in Writing, Literature, and Publishing from Emerson College. My background is primarily in travel writing, having been a staff writer and editor at SmarterTravel.com for the past seven years. Other essays and articles have been published in The Boston Globe, Travelers' Tales, and The Bark magazine, among other publications. I'm currently pursuing fiction in my free time -- I'm shopping around my first novel, and am hard at work revising my second. I also enjoy reading, hiking, traveling, and attempting to cook.

Inspirations

Carole Shields, David Mitchell, Margaret Atwood, Atul Gawande, and T.C. Boyle never cease to amaze me. I love to visit a new place and observe the rhythm of daily life in a completely foreign setting. Being outside my comfort zone makes me notice what I overlook at home, and conversely makes me more perceptive to my own routines when I return from traveling. The "short takes" in the newspaper are full of potential characters and plot jumping-off points to get a new story going. The rolling countryside of Pennsylvania, where I grew up, always makes me want a room of my own, overlooking a pasture, to write without interruption. Beautiful music is a must, too -- My favorite background music for writing includes Sufjan Stevens, James Blackshaw, Hem, and Keith Jarrett.
