I feel thrust into a situation without knowing where I am and I don’t mind that. While I am reading this I feel just as disorientated as the narrator. For some readers this may be confusing or even jolting but, I enjoyed being placed in a situation and feeling the same way as the narrator minus all of the physical pain. A main reason why I feel like this works well is because even though I don’t understand the situation she is in or how she really got there I, like her, find a strange comfort in knowing that she recognizes the voices around her. The tone and comments made by these people seem very ordinary and their lack of hysteria allows me, as a reader, to trust the narrator and go with the flow. This first chapter raises a lot of questions, yes, but they are questions that I would want to learn the answers to. Obviously, she has been attacked but how the heck did she end up there, amongst people she knows? And what exactly happened to her attackers? Who is this woman?
